THE SIDES
Mid fade
A mid fade puts its shortest point at the middle of the side of the head — not down at the ear, not up near the crown. It is the fade that reads as obviously barbered without being severe, and it is the safest first fade for almost any head shape.
Also called medium fade, mid skin fade, taper fade.

Also works with one
These are cut with something else by default, so the photographs show that instead — but ask for a mid fade and your barber will know exactly what you mean.

Questions
- What guard number is a mid fade?
- Most barbers start around a #2 or #3 high on the side and blend down to a #0.5 or skin at the shortest point. The word mid describes where that shortest point sits, not the guard.
- Does a mid fade suit a round face?
- Yes, and it is one of the better choices. Taking weight off the sides while keeping height on top lengthens the face visually.
